TU Rare Book Collection copy: Inscribed on the paste-down across from the title in Hebrew and French. Text from the inscription: "לעלת"מ הק' געטשלק בלאמוהר"ר שעפטיל אשר דק"ק שט"ב (=שטראסבורג) יע"א". "G. Scheftel". "הק' געטשליק שעפטיל". Further inscription in French: "Mr A Sichel fils Dr. pour les yeux | 3-5 rue neuve des Mathurins 86 | Monsieur Scheftel | R8 à rue de Poitou". Transl.: 'Mr. Sichel, the doctor's son ... | 3 and 5 (francs and centime) | Mr. Scheftel | at 8 on Rue de Poitou'. The owner identifies himself as Gottschalk Scheftel of Strasbourg. The French inscription indicates that Sichel was possibly his eye doctor.. - Rue de Poitou is in a southern district in Strasbourg, perhaps also a street in Paris; Rue des Mathurins is perhaps a reference to a street in the 8th arrondissement of Paris off of the Boulevard Haussmann near the Champs-Élysées. Does this mean that the inscriber lived in Paris at this time? Unclear. Inscription appx. 1800-1840.- Owner
