TU volume presumed transferred to Jewish Cultural Reconstruction, Inc., (JCR) from the Offenbach Archival Depot (OAD). The OAD was established by the Office of Military Government, United States and located in the U.S. zone of occupied Germany. It served as a clearinghouse for sorting, identifying, and repatriating books and cultural artifacts seized by the German National Socialist (Nazi) Government from Jewish communities and individuals during World War II. Ownerless items were transferred to Jewish Cultural Reconstruction, Inc., the custodial organization responsible for distributing heirless items among scholarly institutions in the United States, Israel, Europe, and Latin America.
