TU Rare Book Collection copy: Inscribed in ink above the title page design. First inscription: לה' הארץ ומלואה יוסף בן הקצין זלמן שניאור ס"ט - Yosef son of Zalman Shnur. Next (and oldest) inscription: זה ניתנה לי בירושה מא"אבי (אדוני אבי) הק` שמואל בונפט שניאור פיורדא. Transl.: This was given to me as an inheritance from my master, my father Shmu'el Böenft (?) Shnur, Fürth. This owner has been identified; Zalman Schnur was born to Samuel Böenft Schnur, a scholar and printer-publisher at Fürth, during the late 17th century. Samuel died in 1728, as noted in a book printed at his publishing house "Em ha-Yeled ve-Ḥinukh Ḳatan" that year. Zalman, known as 'die gute Zalman' ("the good Zalman"), was a prominent cantor at Mainz during the early decades of the 18th century. The family history and ethical will of Zalman is documented in (Heb.) 'Ḳobets Devarim Neḥemadim': Husiatyn: Hevrat Dovev Sifte Yeshenim, p. 27-29.
