Moses Nussbaum is mentioned as the rector of the Zeitlofs-Schule . \n\n\"An Einrichtungen hatte die jüdische Gemeinde eine Synagoge, seit 1877/78 eine Israelitische Elementarschule, vermutlich ein rituelles Bad und einen Friedhof. Die Israelitische Elementarschule war auf Veranlassung von Rabbiner Dr. Michael Cahn (Fulda) gegründet worden. Lehrer war über mehrere Jahrzehnte (von 1878 bis zu seiner Zurruhesetzung 1920) Moses Nussbaum aus Zeitlofs. 1879 waren von ihm 19, 1897 und 1912 jeweils 51 Schülerinnen und Schüler zu unterrichten. Bis 1919 ging die Schülerzahl auf 26 zurück. Nussbaums Nachfolger war für nur zweieinhalb Jahre Isidor Landsberg; er starb bereits 1923. Seit 1923 war Chajim Emanuel aus Fulda als Lehrer in Hersfeld tätig. Unter ihm hatte die Schule 1927 noch 23 Schüler (Lehrer Emanuel sprach bei der Trauerfeier für den verstorbenen Lehrer Nußbaum 1929, s.u.).
