Libra Katz Rare copy gift of German historian Georg G. Iggers (Williamsville, New York; 1926-2017), 2016, presented to the Penn Libraries in honor of Albert Jonas; Iggers: "I have had [this book] since the summer of 1938 when as an eleven year old child I was at a Jewish summer camp in Baden [Germany] in a small village [Müringen?] which had 300 Jewish inhabitants of whom most had left for Palestine; we were told that we might each take one prayer book from the abandoned synagogue; I have had it ever since". Jonas was a childhood friend of Iggers who accompanied him to this summer camp, and during Kristallnacht [later that year, on November 9-10] Jonas was deported to the Dachau Concentration Camp [in Bavaria] from which he escaped to Sweden and taught at a Jewish school in Goethenberg.- Owner
