The bookplate on the upper pastedown shows the coat of arms and motto of Yale University with “Yale University Library” printed and “Gift of John M. Schiff and Mrs. Julius Kahn” typed below it (in this case "gift" refers to the gifted funds; it does not mean that the book was previously in the possession of either person). Added in pencil is “Beinecke Library ZZi 7342” (the volume was transferred to the Beinecke after 1963). According to the typed collation slip, tipped in between the front pastedown and first free endpaper, Yale University Library acquired a copy of the Arukh with funds donated by John M. Schiff and Mrs. Julius Kahn on 10/28/1958. The collation slip also contains information about the first Yale University Library repository in which the copy was held, that is, the now defunct, Rare Book Room in Sterling Memorial Library.- Owner
