Information for this footprint comes from Fabrizio Quaglia: Inside the cover, two short lists of Hebrew words with headings מלות על משקל לשון סורי (“Words about the weight [?] in the Syriac language”) and מלות סוריות הנמצאות תהלים ומשלי (“Syriac words found in Psalms and Proverbs”); their calligraphy belongs to Samuel David Luzzatto (below). On the recto of the front flyleaf, Hebrew and Latin list of words written by S.D. Luzzatto, as he clarified at the top נקוד מלות סוריות אשר לקטתי מספר דיתקי חדתא הנדפס 1663 על ידי Gutbirio AEgidio (“Syriac pointed words which I collected from Diateḳa ḥedata printed in 1663 by Aegidio Gutbirio”); the Diateḳa ḥedata is a Syriac-Latin lexicon of the New Testament edited by the German scholar Aegidius Gutbier (1617-1667) in Hamburg in 1663. On the recto of the front flyleaf, there is also an Italian (?) signature, scored through in black ink. On the verso, a Hebrew list by Luzzatto מלות חמורות מלשון ארמית אשר לקטתי מתהלים מתרגם סורית הנעתק מכ''י Estranghelo אשר באמברוזיאנה (“Significant words from the Aramaic language that I have collected from Psalms from a Syriac translation taken from the manuscript in Estranghelo that is in the Ambrosiana [Library of Milan]”). Estranghelo is the name of the oldest Syriac script, derived from the Aramaic script. Luzzatto referred to the Ambrosiana ms. C. 313. Inf. used by the Italian scholar Gaetano Bugati (1745-1816), mentioned by Luzzatto as “Cajetanus Bugatus” in his note, for editing Psalmi secundum editionem LXX interpretum, published in Milan in 1830 (cf. item “Bugati, Gaetano” by Angelo Paredi in Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, XV, Roma, Istituto della Enciclopedia italiana, 1972, pp. 4-5). At the top of the title page, deleted but still readable, cursive Hebrew owner’s note, 17th-century Italian script, אשר חנן ה' אל עבדו דניאל חיים בכמ''ר אברהם ... זצ''ל (“That God granted to his servant, Dani’el Ḥayyim son of the venerable rabbi Avraham ..., of blessed memory”); 'ה חנן אשר alludes to Genesis, 33:5, 'ה is shortened for אלהים; ל''זצ is the acronym of לברכה צדיק זכר. Immediately below it, cursive Hebrew note of an owner, 18thcentury Italian script, whose name was relentlessly deleted to make it illegible, זה הספר אשר חנן ה' אל עבדו ולבניו ולחריו ... זצ''ל (“This is the book that God granted to his servant and to his children after him ..., of blessed memory”). On f. 736r and on one of the final unnumbered folios, the [24]r, marginal dedication in Italian and Hebrew, maybe written by Luzzatto “per Zaalon ו''נר” ;“Zaalon” is the Italian rendering of Hebrew name Zahalon, we cannot say who he was; ו''נר is the acronym of וברכיה רחמנא נטריה”) May God guard and bless him”). On the left side of the top of the title page, cropped cursive Hebrew inscription, Italian script, written in a calligraphy different than the other ones. This volume is filled with lots of marginal erudite glosses in Hebrew, Italian and Latin by Samuel David Luzzatto, one of them, on folio 671v, is written in Italian and dated “15 Sett.[embre] 1864”. On ff. 686r, 782v, 783v, 785r, 786r-787v, 789r-790r the cursive Hebrew marginal glosses in pencil belong to a different hand. The book contains a piece of paper reporting the address “S.D.
