Information for this footprint comes from Fabrizio Quaglia: Lower, on the middle of the title page, unsigned note written by S.V. Dalla Volta in cursive Hebrew, Italian script, in which he reported that according to the Šetei yadot (“Two hands”, Venice 1618; see Kaufmann B 330), f. 122, by the kabbalist and linguist Constantinople rabbi Menaḥem De Lonzano (1550-before 1624), the Sefer ha-yašar (“The book of righteousness”) was composed by the ethicist rabbi Zeraḥyah called ha-Yevani (“the Greek”) who lived in the thirteenth or fourteenth century in the Byzantine Empire. On bottom of the last printed page, 17th-century Italian date “Adi 18 Agosto 198 F.”; 198 is underlined. All the folios have been marginally annotated in Hebrew by Š. Kohen Modon (most of them) and S.V. Dalla Volta; some pages show also textual corrections. On the margins of seven folios Š. Kohen Modon wrote also some Italian words of comment, including the Italian saying “mangiare per vivere e non vivere per mangiare” (“eat to live and not live to eat”) on the left margin of f. [8]v. Perhaps it was Š. Kohen Modon who made the drawing of a scales on the right margin of f. [28]r. Although his signature does not appear on it, this rare volume was also owned by Leon Samuel Dalla Volta (see below).- Owner
