On the left side of the title page, his notice in cursive Hebrew, Italian script, taken from Giovanni Bernardo De Rossi, Dizionario storico degli autori ebrei e delle loro opere, II, Parma, dalla Reale Stamperia, 1802, p. 98, about the Italian rabbi Avraham Menaḥem b. Ya‘aqov Kohen me-Porṭ (Porto; 1520- after 1594), who was among those who forbade the reading of ‘Azaryah de Rossi’s Ma’or einayim (“Light of the Eyes”). On the unprinted f. 1v, Hebrew cursive note, Italian script, S.V. Dalla Volta signed and dated day first 22 Sivan year 5590 [C. E. Sunday, 13 June 1830] a further remark by him about Ma’or einayim referring to f. 38r of the Emunat Ḥakamim (“The Faith of the Wise”), printed in Mantua in 1730, that is a work by the Mantuan rabbi Avi’ad Śar Šalom Bazilah (Basilea; ca. 1680-1743) in which he praised the wisdom of Kabbalah and defamed philosophy, and to f. 33v, no. 68, of the kabbalistic Miṭpaḥat sefarim (“The covering of books”), Altona 1768, by the German rabbi Ya‘aqov Yiśra’el Emden (1697-1776), the second part of which is a criticism of the same Emunat Ḥakamim. Inside the front cover S.V. Della Volta inscribed some sums in Hebrew and Arabic numerals.- Owner
