Information for this footprint comes from Fabrizio Quaglia: At the left upper side of recto of front flyleaf, bibliographical reference in cursive Hebrew and German written in blue ink by David Kaufmann: עיי' ע''ד השמטות רש"ש / 359-61 12, Orient (“See my opinion [?] on the omissions [by] rabbi Š.[emu’el] Š.[alom]”); 'עיי is short for עיין ;perhaps here ד''ע is the acronym of דעתי על. The reference is to the article Verfälschung und Ergänzung des Juchasin by the French Hebraist Eliakim Carmoly (1802-1875), published in the journal “Der Orient”, X, 1851, 22, cols. 359-361; Carmoly exposed in it the changes to which the text was submitted. The first edition of Sefer ha-Yuḥasin (“Genealogy Book”), Constantinople 1566, was actually edited by Šemu’el Šalom with many omissions and additions of his own (cf. item “Zacuto, Abraham ben Samuel” in The Jewish Encyclopedia, XII, New York; London, Funk and Wagnalls Company, 1906, p. 627).- Owner
