Information for this footprint comes from Fabrizio Quaglia: In the upper left corner of the title page a sheet of paper was pasted containing cursive Hebrew, Italian script, a bibliographical reference by the undeclared owner of this book, Šemu’el Ḥay mi-Lavolṭah (Samuel Vita Dalla Volta, 1772-1853) to the Yeven Meṣulah (“The Deep Mire”) by the Ukrainian rabbi Natan Nata b. Mošeh Hannover (lived in the 17th century) about the Chmielnicki pogroms of 1648-1649, a Cossack rebellion that took place in the eastern territories of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth resulting in tens of thousands of deaths among the Jews. Samuel Vita Dalla Volta noticed that this work was similar to the chronicle ‘Emeq ha-baka (“Vale of tears”) by the Sephardic physician Yosef b. Yehošua‘ ha-Kohen (1496-1575). We can add that one of the undeclared sources of Yeven Meṣulah was Ṣuq ha-‘Itim (“Cry of the Times”) by the Polish rabbi Me’ir b. Šemu’el of Szczebrzeszyn, i.e. Kaufmann B 247, cf. EDWARD FRAM, Creating a Tale of Martyrdom in Tulczyn, 1648, pp. 90-91, in Jewish History and Jewish Memory. Essays in Honor of Yosef Hayim Yerushalmi; Edited by Elisheva Carlebach, John M.
