Information for this footprint comes from Fabrizio Quaglia: The surname Rava (also Ravà) derives from the Hebrew rabbà, meaning “great”, “Lord”. This family was present in Tuscany around the end of the 14th century then settled in Bologna, Padua, Verona, Reggio Emilia where the Ravas in the 19th century managed an important trading house. Members of this family were also jurists, critics, historians, publicists, etc. Missing in the reported signature any indication of place, any date or a patronymic (regarding Yosef Yiśra’el), so we cannot indicate who were the brothers, i.e. the owners of Kaufmann B 236 by bequest. The ms. Leqeṭ Pe’ah (“Gleanings of the Corner”; maybe meaning the portion of the crop that must be left standing for the poor, in accordance with Leviticus 19:9 and 23:22) composed by a certain rabbi Eli‘ezer and copied in the 1560s, collecting homiletics and short Torah thoughts (allusions, acronyms and numerical values) – sold (bound together another ms.) on 25 May 2021 for $ 5,500 (see Kedem, below) – bears at the bottom of first leaf the same inscription (unfortunately not reproduced), which we can read in Kaufmann B 236.- Owner
