Dates based on life of the owner. Footprint information from Fabrizio Quaglia: On the spine, Marco Mortara’s printed sticker with a red frame and inscription “ex libris M. Mortara”. On the verso of the front flyleaf, Italian bibliographic note by Marco Mortara: “Vedi Fürst art. Menachem-Ziyyon. Si osservi che in fine della Dedica chiama quest’opera il suo primo parto nell’idioma italiano poiché era già stampato il לסוחר עובר“. Professor Julius Fürst (1805-1873) was a Jewish-German orientalist, in his Bibliotheca Judaica, III, Leipzig, Wilhelm Engelmann, 1863, p. 116, there is the mentioned reference to the Italian rabbi Menaḥem Ṣiyyon Kohen Rapa Porṭo (d. c. 1660). His Over la-Soḥer (“Hand-book for the Merchant”), a treatise on arithmetic in 12 sections, was printed in Venice in 1627. Mortara underlined the passage “il suo primo parto nell’idioma italiano”.- Owner
