evidence for how Erasmus obtained this is sparse and speculative... see Van Gulik, p. 379, who speculates that it could have been given by Reuchlin to Erasmus along with the copies of De verbo mirifico and De arte cabalistica in the period 1514-1517. Van Gulik cites Geiger, Johann Reuchlin, p. 132 and Hirsch, Printing, Selling, Reading, p. 73 that there were many copies of this book that were unsold as of 1510, bought back by Reuchlin (and then sold by Reuchlin to Johann Amerbach). Cf. van Gulik, p. 319, on Erasmus' lack of Hebrew but his praise for Erasmus' book as teaching tool for Hebrew. (for others)
