Information from catalog record: This is a manuscript written originally on the front endpaper of a printed Mahzor in the German rite printed in Venice, 1599-1600 (by Giovanni da Gara and Giovanni Bragadin), first inscribed by Simon b. Elieser Chesckiel recording the birthdays of his children in 'Ichenhausen, near the city of Günzburg on the river Donau' (איכנהויזן סמוך לעיר גינצפורק על נהר טונא); earliest child Naftali born 14 Heshvan 5431 (October 28, 1670) and final child, Elle, born 13 Tishre 5445 (September 21, 1684); at this time in Ichenhausen, there were estimated to be about 70-90 Jewish families residing, and the first synagogue was built there in 1687). Manuscript notes in pencil interpreting the 17th century writing into German, dating from the late 19th century, may be the hand of an additional former owner, David Cohen of Buttenwiesen (דוד כהן מפאטוויצא[ן]). Manuscript writing (17th century Hebrew) written in 8 lines in a 17th century German-Ashkenazic cursive script of the 17th century; additional line (dated 1684) written in a 17th century German-Ashkenazic semicursive script in a different hand.- Owner
