In 1562 he moved to Bologna; occasionally visited Venice between 1565 and 1602, where he worked as a proof corrector and printed his most important works: He’arot le-Sefer he-Arukh, supplying textual references on midrashic and talmudic passages cited in the Arukh of Nathan b. Jehiel of Rome (1553); Degel Ahavah, an ethical work (Venice, 1551); Ma’yan Gannim (same year), containing 25 letters in metrical form designed to serve as models for students of this classic literary genre; and his major work, a Hebrew grammar, Arugat ha-Bosem (1602).\nFrom 1568 Archivolti lived in Padua, where he served as secretary of the community, principal of a yeshivah, and dayyan. In Padua he died on March 11th 1611. His responsa and letters deal with halakhic questions. Leone da Modena was his pupil. For more information see item “Archivolti, Samuel (ben Elanan Jacob)” by Yehoshua Horowitz in Encyclopaedia Judaica, III, Jerusalem, The\nMacmillan Company, 1971, col. 397. I can add that Archivolti reported in Ma’yan Gannim two letters of him about the possibility for women of practicing Jewish studies; on it I point out David\nGianfranco Di Segni, Le donne e lo studio della Torà: uno scambio epistolare fra Dina e Rabbi Samuele Archivolti nell’Italia del Rinascimento, “La Rassegna Mensile di Israel”, LXVII, 2001, 1-\n2, pp. 151-176; and Robert Bonfil, Riflessioni su una prospettiva femminista nell’epistolario di Samuele Archivolti, pp. 117-128, in La cultura ebraica a Bologna tra Medioevo e Rinascimento.\nAtti del convegno internazionale, Bologna, 9 aprile 2000, a cura di Mauro Perani, Firenze, Giuntina, 2002.";
