A very interesting inscription noting purchase from a very important German-Jewish printer. Abraham bar Menahem (Abraham Herlinghen Calish, see next FP) bought this volume from Seligman Reiß of Frankfurt in Bad Homberg, likely October 1719 (see next FP). Seligmann Reiss (full German spelling) was the foundational printer in Offenbach am Main (most prominently) and the earlier press in Bad Homberg vor der Hohe, which is directly north of Frankfurt-am-Main (as noted by Herlinghen in a rustic Judeo-German). He also printed in Frankfurt. This inscription notes Reiss moved from Frankfurt to open a press in Bad Homburg temporarily; this was a result of the ban of Jewish-owned printers in FaM (and also a historical result of printers opening up directly next to the city, from Heddernheim, Hanau, Sulzbach am Main, and now Bad Homburg, later Offenbach, and although past the edict, that of Offenbach's evolution, Roedelheim).- Owner
