"Segal inscribed on the inside cover that it was “given to me as a gift by the publisher [ba’al hamadpis] himself, the scholar Meir Crescas, as thanks for the labor of my profession, from among all the books [of his?] which I have sold here. Therefore I sign my name, the scholar David b. Avraham Segal, here in Neuwied… Marḥeshvan, 5510” The precise date, as written, is problematic: it appears to say “Thursday, the 24th [or perhaps 22nd] of Marḥeshvan, 5510.” However, in the Hebrew year 5510 neither the 22nd or the 24th of Marḥeshvan fell on a Thursday. Assuming that the day of the week, the month, and the year are correct, then we might tentatively correct the date to Thursday, November 6, 1749, which was the 25th of Marḥeshvan, 5510. There is an additional concluding sentence, which I tentatively read as: נעשה כרך זה בעד ח׳׳ז ריינש , “this volume is worth 8 Rhenish gulden.” Previous is all from Noam Sienna, "Rabbis with Inky Fingers..," 180.- Owner
