The book is part of a group of Hebrew incunabula in the collection about which we have no information as to when they arrived. None have accession numbers or pre-war shelf marks; on the other hand, there is no evidence they were acquired after the war. Given the fact that all are duplicates of editions represented in the collection, they may have been slated for sale (but not sold) before 1933, while Aron Freimann served as Judaica librarian. They may have resurfaced when Kurt Ohly and Vera Sack began working on their catalogue of the incunabula in the library in 1955, and were then assigned the shelf marks they presently have. Contrary to Ohly/Sack, Inkunabelkatalog (Frankfurt 1967), no. 2413, while Freimann, Die hebräischen Inkunabeln der Stadtbibliothek (Frankfurt 1920), p. 131, mentions that Abraham Merzbacher had owned the book, this copy preserves no evidence to indicate that it was his. (That includes the original boards of the pre-Stadtbibliothek binding, which were kept when the book underwent restoration in 2017.)- Owner
