CJS copy formerly owned by shoḥṭim (ritual slaughterers) for the Shearith Israel Congregation in New York during the 18th century, and most of the inscriptions date from the 1720s. Formerly owned by Jacob Hart (multiple inscriptions in Hebrew and English); inscriptions dated 1721, 1724, and 1726. Full inscription on front endpaper: "Jacob Hart, his book, anno 1721, of Scheta Badeco, Rabbi Benjamin Elias of the city of New York יעקב הארט". Jacob Hart was a Shohet for the congregation Shearith Israel in New York during the 1720s. Benjamin Elias was also a Shohet at this time. By calling Elias "Rabbie", perhaps this means Elias trained him for Shehita.- Owner
