Can you help? identify "Joh. Rasch," who owned this book shortly after it was printed, or decipher the four letters/acronyms? at the bottom of his note.? Per Fabrizio Quaglia: J. Rasch was born in Pöchlarn (Austria) around 1540 and probably died in Wien in 1612. J. Rasch was an extraordinarily versatile scholar: musician and composer, mathematician, writer and bookseller. Furthermore he conducted legal and theological studies. At the Protestant University of Wittenberg he studied law and theology, at the University of Vienna astronomy, mathematics and allegedly history. Between 1563 and 1570 Rasch toured through Germany and worked from 1570 as an organist in the Vienna Schottenstift. In his writings on astronomy, meterology and history he also dealt with astrology and pseudoprophetism. His work includes two motet collections and church compositions, besides a book about Lower Austrian viticulture. Source: PETER ERHART, Niederösterreichische Komponisten, München, Doblinger, 1998, p. 9. Among his books we can also remember Calendarivm Romanvm Aethnicae Vetvstatis (Sangalli, 1584); and Practica, wider etliche weissagungen vnd Prognostica, sonderlich des Misocaci, vom Antichrist, letzter Zeit, vnd end der Welt, von vndergang hohes Geschlechts, von änderung der Reiche vnd Religion (München, 1584). His Das Weinbuch (München, [1580]) it was one of the first books printed in German on wine. Aussig (in German Außig) was a town in Bohemia, now Czech Republic, today it is called Ústí nad Labem. Maybe Rasch bought this bilingual edition of Tishby just in Aussig in 1568 or read it there. In the short article “Rasch, Johannes” by Robert Eitner in Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, XXVII, Leipzig, Duncker & Humblot, 1888, p. 316, there’s no reference to Aussig.
