All notes by Chaim Meiselman: The Yalkut Shimoni was written by a certain Simeon who likely was a Talmudist at Frankfurt; see the article under 'YALḲUT' in the Jewish Encyclopedia, ed. 1906 by Jacob Lauterbach and Joseph Jacobs. The exact identity of this compiler is not precisely known.[1]. Yalḳut ha-Torah. -- [2]. Yalkut ḥeleḳ sheni mi-neviʼim u-khetuvim.This edition is very similar to the edition printed at Frankfurt-am-Main in 1687, which in turn used the letterforms and foliation of the earlier edition in Lublin 1643; the foliation for the Venice 1567 edition printed by Alvise Bragadin is also virtually the same (although with different typeface). Current writer has observed that the 1687 and 1708 editions employ a unique typeface for the running title and title statements, though with the 1708 edition the signature marks are printed in Germanic-gothic (unique to this edition). This form is a continuation of these editions before the additions of commentaries. The work is a combination of Halakhic and Aggadic Midrashim to the order of the Sidrah, i.e. the order of the Pentateuch. Elements are later, i.e. Talmudic, even medieval, while other elements date earlier, such as Tannaic and portions of the Midrash ha-Gadol.
