All notes by Chaim Meiselman: notes Elements of the title are rubricated, with the most prominent being the place of print. Title also contains a printers device and a dedication to Alexander I of Russia Aleksandr Pavlevich (1777-1825). This - along with the 1803 edition of Orakh Ḥaim - were the inaugural editions for the commentary by Elijah b. Solomon of Vilna (1720-1797), known as Gra (acronym for Ga’on Rav Eliyahu). The edition’s print layout features a column of the text (Joseph Karo and Moses Isserles) to the outer portions of the page, while Elijah’s commentary straddles the larger aspect of the gutter-edge. On the margin-edge, Moses Rivkes’ Be’er ha-Golah is printed in a thin column in small print. The publishers of this edition were Yehuda-Leib and Avraham, both sons of Elijah of Vilna. The additional publishers were Menaḥem-Mendl b. Barukh of Shklove (1750-1827, author of Pe’at ha-Shulḥan and Ṭiḳlin Ḥadeitin), a student of Elijah; additional publishers are listed subsequently. language Hebrew. references Friedberg, Beit Eked Sefarim, shin 1473 : 1 (second count) Hillel-Noah Maggid-Steinschneider, ’Ir Vilna, p. 201. All notes by Chaim Meiselman: Page layout of this edition: Joseph Karo's Shulḥan Arukh printed in bold at the top-center, and paragraphs of smaller Rashi print of Moses Isserles' Mapah (glosses) with his sources in parentheses. At the outer perimeter (in smaller Rashi print), Moses Rivkes' Be'er ha-Golah wraps the center-text. Below, a paragraph in slightly larger Rashi type of Zekharia Mendel's Be'er Hetiv. Below that, in miniature block-type is Moses Hagiz's Leḳet ha-ḳemaḥ, intermittently side-by-side with Isaac Jeshurun's Panim Ḥadashot. Ocasionally, a new paragraph is headed with Ozer of Klimontów's Even ha-'Ozer. Below, Avraham Openhaim's Eshel Avraham and Tosefet Merubah line the bottom of the page; Tosefet Merubeh, composed of longer arguments and notes, appears larger. General Note Haskamot (and warnings to plagiarists and counterfeit printers) to this edition: Double-letters from Saul Lowenstamm (1717-1790) of the Ashkenazic community in Amsterdam; first being a letter of praise to the printers and commentators printing in this edition, dated 4 Heshvan 1767; second praising Abraham Props' printing over his brothers edition, and renewing the ban on printing the commentaries printed herein, dated 1 Elul 1777. Next, from Shelomoh Shalem of the Spanish-Portugese community of Amsterdam, dated 17 Kislev 1767. Finally, a Haskamah from Saul ha-levi of the Hague, dated 10 Elul 1768. Citation/Ref. Note Steinschneider, M. Cat. Libr. Bodl., 5940 : 73 (older variant). General Note Steinschneider, op. cit., describes this edition but cites a newer Koenigsberg print.

Not in BhB! All notes by Chaim Meiselman: This edition of the Pri Megadim is based on earlier Frankfurt and Berlin editions of the work, printed side-by-side with the text of the Shulhan Arukh (Joseph Karo and Moses Isserles). The imprint states that it is 'as printed in Berlin', 'in the Amsterdam typeface'; this indicates a counterfeit (i.e. in violation of the copyright) edition printed to mimic the cited edition. Zolḳeve, i.e. Zhovkva, was a source for many of these imprints. In 1798, Pri Megadim al Shulḥan Arukh Oraḥ Ḥaim was printed in Zolḳeve by Gershon Madfis, with mention of its true imprint. Regarding the current volume, the Rabbi of Zolḳeve, Zvi-Hersch Meiseles, writes a Haskamah dated 14 Iyyar 1796, lauding Mordekhai b. Ḥaim for the reprinting of this volume in his community. The two commentaries on Shulḥan Arukh Yoreh deʻah by Joseph Teomim are loosely based in the primary commentators to the text; Śifte Daʻat reflecting Śifte Kohen of Shabbetai b. Me'ir ha-kohen, and Mishbetsot Zahav reflecting Ṭure Zahav of David ha-levi. Many other sources are used by Teomim in the composition of his commentary.Addenda written by Joseph Teomim include 'Dine Sefeḳ Sefeḳa', a mini-treatise on the definitions of rational-legal doubt pertaining to ritual matters. This follows the text. This would be considered vol. 1 to a Shulḥan Arukh Yoreh deʻah being that it reaches Siman 111 and finishes. Likely, the volume two in this imprint was the folio edition printed in Ostroh 1802 by Shemu'el b. Yisakhar-ber Segal, which begins at Siman 112.
