All notes by Chaim Meiselman:notes The author was known as Joseph b. Moses Trani or acronym "Maharit" (Morenu ha-Rav Joseph Trani). He was from Safed in the Holy Land, then under Ottoman dominion; he relocated to Constantinople in 1599 and served as chief rabbi in after 1604. - The name Trani was held by his ancestors as ’de Trani’, after the town in Apulia in Italy with the same name; the family fleed to Turkey before arriving at the Holy Land in the 16th century. The printer is named as Joseph Petschau (spelled פעטשויא, then called Petschau, today Bečov nad Teplou in the Czech Republic) and son. The title statement declares that this was printed second after the 1645 Venice printing, and the organizers and publishers in Fürth were: David ha-kohen and his partner Avraham son of the Dayan Wolff Aube; Eizek Pfaelzburg (פאלצבורג), brother-in-law of the rabbi in Fürth, Joseph Steinhardt; finally, Jakob Dehrenburg of Pleß (spelled פלאס), a town in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria.
