All notes by Chaim Meiselman: General Note Steinschneider notes that this edition was printed in two volumes, with each volume containing two titles for each volume of the Shulhan Arukh. Citation/Ref. Note BenJakob, Otsar Hasefarim, gimel 81. Citation/Ref. Note Friedberg, Beit Eked Sefarim, gimel 183. Citation/Ref. Note Strauss, Berthold, Cat. of B. Strauss Library, 5587-5590. General Note Each volume has a separate title. The opening volume (Oraḥ Ḥaim and Yoreh De'ah) featured miniature woodcuts of some of the major rabbinic scholars post-Gaonic times (9th century): Rashi of Troyes, Maimonides, Jacob ha-levi Moellin, Moses Cordovero, Moses Isserles, and finally Gur-Aryeh ha-levi Finzi (wearing clerical vestments - a Ferraiolo with a Clerical collar). These illustrations were discontinued on the later three titles. Citation/Ref. Note Steinschneider, M. Cat. Libr. Hebr. Bodl., 5940 : 20 General Note This was an inaugural edition of the Shulḥan 'Arukh printed with the basic texts (Joseph Karo's Shulḥan 'Arukh and Moses Isserles' Mapah) with the commentary of Gur-Aryeh b. Benjamin ha-Leṿi Finzi of Mantua on the outer borders of the pages. The volume begins with an introductory paragraph by David b. 'Ezri'el Finzi, introductions by Gur-Aryeh Finzi (Casalmaggiore 18th century; grandson of the previously mentioned Gur-Aryeh Finzi). The third heading (titled אריה שאג, Aryeh Sha'ag) is a written eulogy for Gur-Aryeh Finzi (the elder) by his grandson. General Note Title-pages within ornamental borders. General Note Edited with an introduction by his grandson, Gur Aryeh.- Place
