All notes by Chaim Meiselman: notes Isaac Foa wrote a small printer’s introduction, which begins on fol. 2; following are the Haskamot printed for the Amsterdam 1715 edition, lauding Jakob London, Hillel of Padua, Shelomoh Roke’ah, and Joseph Bluelios for the publishing. Following this is a Haskamah of the Venetian Rabbinate, undersigned by Isaac b. Asher Pacifico. This is a work in which the purpose was to defend the commentary of Rashi, i.e. Solomon b. Isaac of Troyes (1040-1105) against criticisms (consisting of questions and contra-proofs) written by the Tosafists, writing 12th and 13th centuries. The text follows the headings of the Tosafot in the order of the Talmud folios. The printer was Isaac Foa at Venice, with further imprints of Bragadin (Nella Stamperia Bragadina). The recto of the title contains a letter of permission in Italian, citing Tomaso Manuelli, Inquisitor General of the Republic of Venice, allowing the dissemination of this work in Venice and Padua, and signed 10 September 1740. Signers are Lorenzo Tiepolo, Pietro Grimani (who served as Doge less than a year subsequent), Agostin Bianchi, dated 3 December 1740; with Vettor Gradenigo undersigning. Final permission is given to a "Jacob London", a Jew working for the Bragadin press, to print the book. Edited with an introduction by the author’s grandson, Eliakim Goetz b. Mordekhai of Poznań, who brought the volume to press originally by Solomon Proops in Amsterdam 1715. ‫ Colophon : נשלם בראש חדש סיון הת״קא. ‬ references Friedberg, Beit Eked Sefarim, mem 493 : 3
