Durch den Stadtbrand vom 22. Juni 1798 um Haus, Bibliothek und Manuskripte gebracht, wohnt er zeitweise in Zbarazh (Zbara¿), Ostgalizien. Als Nachfolger seines Bruders 1802 Oberlandesrb. in Posen, wo ihm ebenfalls die wöchentliche Predigt zur Auflage gemacht wird. Anhänger des Pilpul und der Kabbala\nwird durch einige anonyme junge Gemeindeglieder bei der preuß. Regierung des Aberglaubens und Obskurantismus bezichtigt und als „roher Pollak“ denunziert. Ende Sept. 1805 erkrankt er schwer und zieht sich nach Nowy Dwór zurück, wo er kurz vor seinem Tod seine Werke drucken läßt.";
