Seine Pointen seien auch sonst „sehr witzig“ gewesen (Tendlau, Sprichwörter, S. 355). Unterstützt als erste rb. Autorität Mendelssohn, etwa durch seine Approbation vom 4. Sept. 1778 zu dessen Bibel, doch bekämpft er dessen Mitarbeiter N.-H. Wessely, den er 1782 aus Berlin vertreiben lassen will. Seine zweite Frau Golda, Tochter des David-Tewle Hakohen, starb 1794\nseine Söhne Saul Berlin und Salomon Herschell wurden Rb. in Frankfurt/Oder und London.";
