- בהקדמה לסיפרו משלי אסף - חלק א', מספר סטנוב על הפכפכותם של חלק מן החותמים מראש, ועל הנזק הכלכלי שנגרם לו כתוצאה מכך: "והנה זה ימים או שנה רבי' מנדיבי עמנו עמדו למעוז לי לקחת במקח ס' השרשים, והן עתה קצת מהחתומים מושכים את ידיהם אחר שנמנו, ואני אין לאל ידי לתבוע אותם בדין כי גרמו לי היזק רב והנושה בא לקחת את נשיו ואין לאל ידי, לכן מי אשר חטא לי אמחנו מספרי, ובכתב הדת לחברת מצדיקי הרבים לא יכתב עוד, ואשר מוצא שפתיו לא ישנה יעמוד שמו לעולם וזכרו לדור דורים כי טובה עשה בישראל והיה מעשה הצדקה שלום"
