Uri Phoebus' Ḳunṭros Shemot ha-Anashim u-Bet Shemot ha-Nashim ('miniature-tract regarding the names of men, and [also] the names of women'), a composition dealing with the proper Hebrew spelling of Yiddish and Germanic names; the subject of such writing was legal in nature and used for divorce documents, with the intention being that only a normalized and regular spelling will be legally binding to the subjects (and witnesses) in Bet-Din. After this excursus is another called Ḳetsat shemot 'ayyarot ve-neharot, transl. 'various names of cities and rivers', authored by Eliezer b. Solomon Lipshutz for his Damesek Eli'ezer (printed in Neuwied, 1749); this served as a loose-ordered lexicon of Hebraicized names for German-Yiddish areas legalized for Beth-din divorce documents.
