АЛЬШВАНГ Арнольд Александрович (1898, Киев – 1960, Москва), музыковед, пианист. Д-р иск-ведения (1944). В 1911 поступил в Киевскую коне, занимался на исполнительском и композиторском ф-тах. Будучи студентом конс. поступил (1916) в коммерческий ин-т. В 1920 окончил коне, по классу фп. (учился у Г.К.Ходоровского и Г.Г.Нейгауза), в 1922 – композиции (был учеником Б.Л.Яворского и Р.М.Глиэра).За революц. деятельность как «политически неблагонадежный» был сослан в Олонецкую губ. В 1917 А. – чл. совета представителей Киевской конс. через 2 г. – нач. военно-муз. школы, готовившей воен. капельмейстеров. В 1920 окончил Ин-т нар. хозяйства. С 1923 проф. Киевской коне. Организовал в ней муз.-научный ф-т, деканом к-рого стал. Ввел новые курсы – «Строение муз. речи» и «Слушание музыки» в Киевской нар. коне. С 1924 в Москве (приглашен преподавать в Лит. ин-те им. В.Я.Брюсова). Выступал с концертами как пианист-солист и лектор-популяризатор. Дебютировал как театр. композитор. В 1928–32 – д. ч. Гос. академии художеств. наук; в 1930–34 преподавал в Моск. конс. Свои лекции, пользовавшиеся огромным успехом, сопровождал блестящими иллюстрациями за фп. Впервые в программе коне, ввел темы: опера и инстр. музыка кон. 19 – нач. 20 в., музыка И.Ф.Стравинского, франц. композиторов т.н. «Шестерки». Тяжелая болезнь вынудила А. сосредоточиться на исследовательской работе. Опубликовал мн. статей, ряд науч. работ, посв. зап.-европ. и рус. музыке, проблемам муз. стилей, исполнительства, а также популярные брошюры. Менее известен А. как композитор – автор симф.
