PIKELNER Solomon Borisovich (1921, Baku - 1975, Moscow), astrophysicist. Dr. Phys.-Math. Sciences (1954), prof. (1959). Graduated in 1937 fur-ma-tem. Faculty of Moscow State University and in 1942 astronomical. department of this faculty, then graduate school. In 1945–46 at Astrophys. Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR was engaged in completing astronomical. equipment for the country's observatories. From 16 he restored the Crimean Observatory of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, in which he then worked. From 1959 to physical. f-those GU. ПИКЕЛЬНЕР Соломон Борисович (1921, Баку – 1975, Москва), астрофизик. Д-р физ.-матем. наук (1954), проф. (1959). Окончил в 1937 мех.-ма-тем. ф-т МГУ и в 1942 астрономич. отд-ние этого ф-та, затем аспирантуру. В 1945–46 в Астрофиз. комиссии АН СССР занимался комплектацией астрономич. оборудования для обсерваторий страны. С 16 восстанавливал Крымскую обсерваторию АН СССP, в к-рой затем работал. С 1959 на физ. ф-те ГУ. Осн. науч. работы связаны с изучением межзвездной среды, плазмы солнечной атмосферы. Ав-тор ок. 140 науч. ст. и ряда монографий, науч. ред. соавт. науч. изд., в т. ч. энциклопедии «Физика космоса» (М., 1976), «Происхождение и эволюция галлактик и звезд» (М., 1976). На протяжении 15 лет был ответств. секр. «Астрономич. журнала». В 1964–67 през. комиссии № 34 (Межзвездное вещество и планетарные туманности) Междунар. астрономич. союза. Иностр. чл.
