С 1953 и до конца жизни работал в Моск. НИИ психиатрии МЗ РФ (его учителями были М.Я.Серейский, Д.Е.Мелехов, С.Г.Жислин). В 1961 совершенствовался в Англии и Франции, в т.ч. у франц. ученых Ж.Делея и П.Деникера – пионеров психофармакотерапии.С именем А. связано становление и развитие психофармакотерапии в СССР.
