В.Я.Шебалина «Укрощение строптивой». С 1958 дирижер-педагог оркестровых классов в муз. школах и уч-щах Ленинграда, в 1962–69 гл. дирижер симф. орк. Нар. филармонии при Выборгском дворце культуры. С. первым среди сов. дирижеров принял участие в 4-м Междунар. конкурсе оркестровых дирижеров в Академии «Санта-Чечилия» в Риме (1968, 1-я пр.). В 1967–69 гл. дирижер Кисловодской филармонии. С 1969 дирижер, в 1970–85 гл. дирижер Большого т-ра СССР в Москве. Участвовал в пост. оп. «Псковитянка» Н.А.Римского-Корсакова (премьера, дебют С. в т-ре, 1971), «Октябрь» В.И.Мурадели (нов. редакция, 1977), «Замок герцога Синяя Борода» Б.Бартока (1978), «Золото Рейна» Р.Вагнера (1979) и др.; поставил бал. «Золотой век» Д.Д.Шостаковича, «Анна Каренина» Р.К.Щедрина (1972), «Гибель розы» на муз. Г.Малера (1973). В 1985–89 худ. рук. и гл. дирижер Гос. Малого симф. орк. СССР. Наиб. успешны трактовки С. симф. произ.
