В 1895–1905 был уполномоченным исполнит. к-та сионист. орг-ции «Ховевей Цион» (т.н. «Одесского к-та») в Э.-И. В 1907 создал в пос. Зихрон-Яаков больницу и мед. ц. Автор ряда науч.-популярных работ по профилактич. медицине. Внес значит. вклад в созд. совр. мед. терминологии на иврите. Воспоминания, письма и дневники И. собраны к кн. «Страницы воспоминаний» (1935) и «Поколение дерзновенных» (1939). Именем И. названы мошав в Верх. Галилее и больница в г. Хедере.
