WAVELBERG Ippolit (Gune Nusen) Abramovich (1843, Warsaw - 1901, Petersburg), financier, entrepreneur and society. leader, merchant of the 1st guild. One of the largest bankers in the Kingdom of Poland, supported many. cultural events and educate. institutions without distinction of their nat. focus. In 1869 he moved to St. Petersburg, where he founded one of the leading banking houses "G. Wavelberg". In the beginning. 1880s elected to the board of St. Petersburg. Один из крупнейших банкиров в Царстве Польском, оказывал поддержку мн. культурным мероприятиям и просветит. учреждениям без различия их нац. направленности. В 1869 переехал в Петербург, где основал один из ведущих банкирских домов «Г.Вавельберг». В нач. 1880-х гг. избран в правление Петерб. евр. общины и синагоги, предоставил крупную сумму на стр-во здания хоральной синагоги, с 1878 —чл. к-та по ее сооружению, в 1893 участвовал в церемонии ее освящения, неся один из свитков Торы. В дальнейшем жертвовал на ее содержание, оказывал поддержку др. общинным учреждениям. Чл. к-та Об-ва для распространения просвещения между евреями в России, к-та Евр. колонизац. об-ва, в деятельности к-рого особенно активно участвовал в последний период жизни.Сын В. – Михаил-Сигизмунд (1881, Петербург – |) окончил Петерб. ун-т, был купцом 1-й гильдии, пред. правления банкирского дома «Г.Вавельберг», участвовал в жизни евр. общины столицы, жертвовал на ее нужды.
