KARPOV Lev Yakovlevich (1879, Kiev - 1921, Moscow), chemical technologist, rev. and state. activist, one of the organizers of the Sov. chem. prom-sti. Rod. in the family of a bankrupt businessman. After graduating from the Kiev real school in 1895 he entered Moscow. tech. uch-shche, a cut he graduated only in 1910, since studies were interrupted by many. arrests and links for participating in the roar. movement (member of the RSDLP since 1898, in 1904–05 - a member of the Central Committee of the RSDLP, in 1906–07 - secretary of the Moscow Committee of the RSDLP). Took part in the development in 1911-15 extracts. method of obtaining turpentine and rosin. He designed equipment and supervised the construction of the first enterprises in Russia for the production of rosin and turpentine, which worked by this method, in Sudogda, Vladimir province. (launched in 1912) and in Finland (1914). In 1915–17 - director. Bondyuzhsky chem. plant on the Kama, organized here the first in Russia workshops for the production of chloroform and liquid chlorine. After the revolution, he headed the department. chem. prom-sti VSNKh RSFSR, was a member. Pres. VSNKh RSFSR, before. tech. council of chem. prom-sti. Under his arms. conversion was carried out. prom-sti, new productions were created and will research. centers, in particular Center. chem. lab. VSNKh RSFSR for servicing scientific and technical. needs of chem. industry (in 1921 it was reorganized into the Chem. Institute, named after him, from 1931 - Physico-chemical. Institute named after L.Ya. Karpov). The initiator of the publication in 1920–24 of the reference book on dep. branches of the Fatherland chem. prom-sti.

VSNKh RSFSR für die Wartung von wissenschaftlichen und technischen. Bedürfnisse von chem. Industrie (1921 wurde es in das nach ihm benannte Chem. Institut umstrukturiert, seit 1931 - Physico-Chemical. Institut nach L. Ya. Karpov benannt). Der Initiator der Veröffentlichung des Nachschlagewerks über Dep. Zweige des Vaterlandes chem. prom-sti.

КАРПОВ Лев Яковлевич (1879, Киев – 1921, Москва), химик-технолог, рев. и гос. деятель, один из организаторов сов. хим. пром-сти. Род. в семье разорившегося коммерсанта. По окончании Киевского реального уч-ща в 1895 поступил в Моск. техн. уч-ще, к-рое окончил лишь в 1910, т. к. учеба прерывалась мн. арестами и ссылками за участие в рев. движении (чл. РСДРП с 1898, в 1904–05 – чл. ЦК РСДРП, в 1906–07 – секр. Моск. к-та РСДРП). Принимал участие в разработке в 1911–15 экстракц. метода получения скипидара и канифоли. Проектировал оборудование и руководил постройкой первых в России предприятий по произ-ву канифоли и скипидара, к-рые работали по этому методу, – в Судогде Владимирской губ. (пущен в 1912) и в Финляндии (1914). В 1915–17 – дир. Бондюжского хим. з-да на Каме, организовал здесь первые в России цехи по произ-ву хлороформа и жидкого хлора. После рев-ции возглавлял отд. хим. пром-сти ВСНХ РСФСР, был чл. През. ВСНХ РСФСР, пред. техн. совета хим. пром-сти. Под его рук. проводилось преобразование хим. пром-сти, создавались новые произ-ва и исследоват. центры, в частности, Центр. хим. лаб. ВСНХ РСФСР для обслуживания науч.-техн. нужд хим. пром-сти (в 1921 реорганизована в Хим. ин-т, названный его именем, с 1931 – Физико-хим. ин-т им. Л.Я.Карпова). Инициатор издания в 1920–24 справочника по отд. отраслям отеч. хим. пром-сти.
