DIKSHTEIN Samuel Rafailovich (1851, Warsaw - 1939, ibid.), Mathematician and historian of mathematics. Ch.-c. Academy of Sciences in Krakow (1930); acad. ibid (1934). Brother of Semyon R. Dikshtein. Graduated from Warsaw University (1870). In 1906-19 he was the first rector of the Warsaw scientific. courses, from 1915 prof. in the same place. After the conversion of courses into un-t (1919) prof. in the same place. Killed during the bombing of Warsaw by the Germans. Main results in the theory of differential. ur-ny, theory of functions and history of mathematics. Author of textbooks for cf. schools. Ed. and ed. a number of mat. g. Vice-pre. Int. Academy of the History of Science (1934–37).

В 1906–19 был первым ректором Варшавских науч. курсов, с 1915 проф. там же. После преобразования курсов в ун-т (1919) проф. там же. Погиб во время бомбардировки Варшавы немцами. Осн. результаты в теории дифференц. ур-ний, теории функций и истории математики. Автор учебников для ср. школы. Ред. и изд. ряда матем. ж. Вице-пред. Междунар. Академии истории науки (1934–37).
