Работал в Киевск. ун-те, (1928–33), Киевск. авиац. ин-те (1928–33), Харьковск. ун-те (1933–41), Алма-Атинск. горном ин-те (1941–43), Моск. энергетич. ин-те (1943–47), с 1947 – в Харьковск. ун-те.Осн. результаты – в теории наилучших приближений, где развивал идеи П.Л.Чебышёва и С.Н.Бернштейна. Работы по теории функций, функц. анализу, теории интегр. уравнений, приближ. и числ. методам, аэродинамике, истории математики. Ввел функции, известные как функции Ахиезера-Бейкера, играющие важную роль в теории нелинейных интегр. систем. Автор ряда ист.-матем. иссл. Пр. АН СССР им.
