В кино с нач. 1930-х гг., помощник Д.Селзника. Публиковал ром. и стихи под пс. К.Кейт и К.Форбс. С 1942 – рук. отд. компании «Рейдио Корпорейшн» по произв-ву «фильмов ужасов». Выпустил мн. ф., ставших классическими в этом жанре, в т. ч. «Кошачий народ» (1942), «Седьмая жертва» (1943), «Проклятье кошачьего народа» (1944), «Остров мертвых» (1945), «Психбольница» (1946), «Прошу тебя, верь мне» (1950).
