Окт. рев-цию не принял, вел антибольшевист. агитацию и пропаганду. В 1919–21 работал инженером, а также в системе проф.-техн. образования, неоднократно подвергался арестам. 25.02.1921 во время массовых арестов с.-д.-меныпевиков заключен в Бутырскую тюрьму, через 2 мес. переведен в Орловский централ, где участвовал в 8-дневной голодовке полит. заключенных. Спустя 9 мес. доставлен в Москву в распоряжение ВЧК; сидел на Лубянке, в Таганской и Бутырской тюрьмах. Заразился сыпным тифом, повлекшим за собой воспаление мозга и паралич. 03.12.1921 освобожден из Бутырок, через месяц и три дня скончался. Похороны А. вылились в демонстрацию (ок. 400 чел.) с участием представителей РСДРП и Союза инженеров.
