Первая кн. стихов для детей -«Китайчонок Ван-Ли», «Мишка-воришка» (1925), с тех пор вышло более 100 кн. ее стихов для детей, завоевавших популярность, нек-рые стихи переизд. св. 400 раз (общий тираж – св. 20 млн. экз.), пер. на мн. яз. В стихах Б., четких и афористичных по форме, сочетаются сатира и мягкий юмор, лирика и призывы к мужеству, к взаимопониманию взрослых людей и детей разных стран. Писала также пьесы, киносценарии: «Подкидыш» (1939), «Слон и веревочка» (1946), «Алеша Птицын вырабатывает характер» (1953). Постоянно участвовала в деятельности Союза сов. писателей. В 1937 дел. Междунар. антифаш. конгр. в защиту культуры (Мадрид). Во время войны 1941—45 работала на радио, выезжала на фронт, сотрудничала в газ. и ж. В теч. неск. лет вела радиопередачу «Найти человека», посв. поискам и орг-ции встреч детей и родителей, потерявших др. друга во время воины. Об этом – книга Б. «Найти человека» (М., 1969) и ее киносценарий «Ищу человека». В 1978 опубл. кн. «Записки детского поэта», размышления, воспоминания о соратниках. Выступала со ст. о дет. лит-ре. Опубл. кн. стихов и рассказов «Про больших и про маленьких» (М., 1958).Б. постоянно помогала молодым литераторам, была пред. Ассоциации деятелей лит-ры и иск-ва для детей. Стал. пр. (1950), Лен. пр.
