ZELIKMAN Abram Naumovich (1911, Gomel, Mogilev province. - 1993, Moscow), metallurgist, specialist in the region. metallurgy of rare metals and hydrometallurgy. Dr. Tech. Sciences (1957), prof. from 1958. He graduated in 1938 Moscow. in-t fine chem. technology, until 1941 graduate student and sotr. department of fine metallurgy of rare metals. In 1941-45 the head. center, lab. defense plant, where he organized the production of hard alloys. Since 1945 he participated in the creation of nuclear weapons, incl. in obtaining weapons-grade plutonium. In 1948–52 at the All-Union Union. Research Institute inorganic materials. In 1943-93 in Moscow. Institute of Nonferrous Metals and Gold (since 1962 Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys) at the Department of Rare Metals and Powder Metallurgy. Main work related to the study of physical and chemical. properties of refractory rare metals and with the development of technol. processes of processing raw materials for their production. He was the first to generalize the theory of the process of roasting molybdenum concentrates in a fluidized bed. Supervised the development and implementation of extracts. methods for extracting molybdenum and rhenium from nitric acid solutions, technologies for producing selenides of refractory metals and selenide coatings of friction surfaces of parts used in spacecraft. techniques, etc. Author of textbooks and uch. manuals on the metallurgy of rare metals, more than 50 inventions. Honored. metallurgist of the RSFSR (1989). Works: Metallurgy of rare earth metals thorium and uranium, Moscow, 1961; Metallurgy of refractory rare metals, M., 1986; The theory of hydrometallurgical processes, 3rd ed., M., 1993.
