Одноврем. преподавал в Моск. высш. техн. уч-ще и в Моск. горной академии (с 1929).Осн. работы в области минералогии и геохимии редких и рассеянных элементов, содержащихся в углях и битумах, иссл. перспектив использования углей в качестве сырья для получения редких и рассеянных металлов. В 1930–37 выявил закономерности распределения в углях германия, ванадия, никеля, бериллия и др. элементов, разработал метод извлечения этих элементов и в 1936 получил первые образцы двуокиси германия.
