Sohn des Salomon W. und der Elisa Rosenbaum. Nach der Barmitzwa geht er nach Zell bei Würzburg zur Jeschiwa seines Großvaters Mendel Rosenbaum, kommt nach dem Tod des Vaters zurück nach Schwabach. Studien bei seinem Onkel Abraham Wechsler daselbst, daraufhin bei S. B. Bamberger in Würzburg, sodann mehrere Jahre bei Wolf Sofer in Preßburg gemeinsam mit David Hoffmann. 1866 Heirat mit seiner Kusine Clara-Grele Rosenbaum, Tochter des Elias-Raphael R. aus Zell, Niederlassung als Händler in Schwabach dort Dajan und Lehrer an der Jeschiwa („Präparandenschule“) von Rb. Löb Wissmann. Kabbalist und Visionär von strenger Gebotspraxis er verbietet z. B. die Herstellung von Bildnissen von seiner Person. Zog 1878 aus religiösen Skrupeln seine Bewerbung um das orthodoxe Frankfurter Gemeinderabbinat zurück, soll einen Ruf als orthodoxer Rb. in Paris abgelehnt haben. 1887 als Lehrer an die Präparandenschule in Höchberg, seine Hoffnung auf die Übernahme von Laz. Ottensosers Nachfolge erfüllt sich jedoch nicht. Von seinen sieben Kindern wanderte Salomon W. (1868-1945) 1888 nach Jerusalem aus und wirkte im Jüdischen Viertel der Altstadt lange Zeit als Rabbiner.
