Gegen die Wahl des Reformtheologen Abraham Geiger als zweiten Rb. opponiert er am 27. Juli 1838 mit der Begründung, daß G. „in seiner Zeitschrift die Religion angreife, und überhaupt wer eine Universität besucht hat, kein rabbinisches Amt bekleiden dürfe“ (Ludw. Geiger, Geiger, S, 56). Nachdem T. Geigers Verständigungsversuche kategorisch zurückweist (IA 1841, S. 143), eskaliert der Konflikt zwischen beiden und ihren Anhängerschaftenim April 1842 wird T. vom Gemeindevorstand abgesetzt.";
