Als scharfsinniger Pilpulist bekannt. 1808 wird er gleichzeitig zum Oberrb. in Metz, zum Oberrb. im Pariser Zentralkonsistorium und zum badischen Oberlandesrb. in Karlsruhe gewählt, er nimmt nach besonderer Intervention des Großherzogs bei Napoleon die letztere Stelle an, mit der 800 fl. Gehalt und ein Sitz im Oberrat der Israeliten Badens verbunden sind. Als Leiter einer Jeschiwa war er Lehrer der meisten badischen Rabbiner. 1820 Bewerber in Hamburg. In zweiter Ehe heiratete er Sara Worms aus Saarlouis, Witwe des Mainzer Oberrb. Samuel Wolf Levi, die 1854 in Gießen starb.";
