        jlo:hasAbstract          "Sohn des Rb. Samuel-Sanfel R. und Enkel des Danziger Rb. Elkan Aschkenasi, Schüler von Akiba Eger in Mirosławiec (Märkisch-Friedland), kommt in jungen Jahren nach Berlin und lernt dort am Bet-Midrasch bei M. S. Weyl, rückt diesem am 20. Apr. 1826 als Bet-Midrasch-Rabbiner und Dajan in Berlin nach. Hält über Jahrzehnte Talmudunterricht vor Rabbinatskandidaten, halbjährliche Homilien in der Synagoge und ethische Vorträge am Sabbatnachmittag, in denen er erfolglos den modernen Predigtstil zu imitieren versuchte. Bewirbt sich gegen Frankel um das Oberrt. in Dresden (1835). Im Kompert-Prozeß 1864 unterzeichnet er auf Seiten der ungar. Trennungsorthodoxie. Von konservativerer Einstellung als sein Kollege J. J. Öttinger, erhält er nach dessen Tod 1860 die Aufsicht über das Ritualwesen, steht in offenem Konflikt mit dem neuen liberalen Oberrabbiner J. Aub. Wird zum 70. Geburtstag mit dem preuß. Adlerorden ausgezeichnet. Er war verheiratet mit Rachel (1798-1832), dann mit Channa (1796- 1880)\nVater von Siegmund R. (1832-1906), Prof. der Medizin in Groningen und Leiden, und von Abraham R., der 1848-51 in Berlin als Rabbinatskandidat studiert\nSchwiegervater von Dr. Daniel Fränkel, Rabbiner in Rybnik.";
