Elementarschule Ostpreußens, ist seit 1871 Schriftführer des „Armenunterstützungs-Vereins“ der Stadt, etc. Zur Aufbesserung seines unzureichenden Gehalts ist er seit April 1872 Redakteur der polit. Tageszeitung Das Memeler Dampfboot. „Ich suchte das Blatt, anfangs ein Organ der Fortschrittspartei, nach und nach auf einen milderen persönlichen Ton zu stimmen, als ein Blatt, das mit aller Welt Frieden zu halten trachtet“.
