Juni 1847 mährischer Landesrb. in Mikulov (Nikolsburg), lehnt einen Ruf an das Oberrabbinat seiner Vaterstadt ab1851 Rb. der orthodoxen „Israelitischen Religionsgesellschaft“ (später Adass Jeschurun) in Frankfurt/M., mit Unterstützung von Baron Rothschild1. Dez. 1852 in Frankfurt eingebürgert. Im Kompert-Prozeß 1864 unterstützt er die ungarischen Trennungsorthodoxen. Aber laut Israelit 1868, S. 431, „erzählt man dort von Geiger in Frankfurt eine charakteristische Aeußerung: ’Ich’, soll er gesagt haben, ’werde nur bezahlt als Gemeinderabbiner, der wirkliche Rabbiner ist Hirsch’„.";
